China's membrane industry establishes three major goals for independent development

This is what the reporter learned from the report meeting on the 12th Five Year Plan for China's membrane industry held in Suzhou on March 27-28.
According to the China Membrane Industry Association, membrane separation technology is widely used in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse, municipal sewage treatment, seawater desalination, gas concentration and separation, and other fields. But currently, 90% of the reverse osmosis membrane market in China is imported products, and about 40% of ultrafiltration membranes and microfiltration membranes are imported. At the same time, most of the membrane materials, auxiliary materials, and membrane components rely on imports. Therefore, during the 12th Five Year Plan period, China's membrane industry has established three main targets for development.
Goal 1: Industrial scale. Establish a complete and large-scale production capacity for membranes and membrane components in the entire field of separation membranes, with membrane performance reaching international advanced levels. Specifically, the annual production capacity of reverse osmosis membranes has reached 10 million square meters, with performance reaching international advanced levels, and the market share of domestically produced reverse osmosis membranes has increased to 25% to 30%; The annual production capacity of ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes reaches 45 million to 50 million square meters; The annual production capacity of electrically driven film is 1 million to 1.3 million square meters; Realize large-scale production of perfluorinated ion membranes for chlor alkali industry, with an annual production capacity of 200000 square meters, and demonstrate and promote them in 10-15 chlor alkali plants. Strive to achieve a 60% substitution rate for imports by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan period; Accelerate the industrial development of high-performance new energy battery separators such as proton fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries, and achieve mass production.
Goal 2: Widely apply. Vigorously promote the promotion and application of membrane technology in various fields of the national economy, and build demonstration membrane treatment projects. Including actively promoting reverse osmosis seawater and brackish water desalination technology, designing and constructing reverse osmosis membrane seawater desalination systems with a capacity of 200000 to 300000 cubic meters per day. Accelerate the promotion of membrane treatment technology in the field of municipal water supply, achieve high-quality drinking water, ensure drinking water safety, and construct membrane purification projects for tap water with a treatment scale of 500000 to 750000 cubic meters per day. Realize the resource utilization of wastewater, establish 50000 to 100000 cubic meters per day demonstration projects for wastewater treatment and recycled water reuse for various industrial wastewater.
Goal 3: Market standardization. Accelerate the establishment of a standard system and evaluation center for membrane products and engineering, standardize the membrane market in China as soon as possible, and promote the large-scale promotion and application of membrane technology.
It is also reported that the main tasks of China's membrane industry's 12th Five Year Plan include 8 industrialization projects, 11 engineering construction projects, and 14 research and development projects.
