On March 29th, the Hangzhou Water Treatment Center of the State Oceanic Administration announced in Shanghai that the membrane module production technology with completely independent intellectual property rights has been developed at the center and has formed the production capacity of all membrane varieties. This marks that China has become one of the few countries in the world after the United States and Japan to have complete membrane technology.
The membrane industry is a brand new industry with only 50 years of history in the world, while China only started more than 30 years ago. Although the magic of "membrane" is still unfamiliar to the general public, it is actually very close to our lives: the drinking purified water commonly used in our homes, whether it is Wahaha, Yangshengtang, Nestle, or PepsiCo, is all made by "membrane" filtration; Domestic beverages, whether formulated or pure fruit juice drinks, have undergone "film" treatment; The "physiological saline" we use for infusion is also obtained through "membrane" treatment. It can be said that all water used in food and beverages is filtered through "membranes", and most pharmaceutical preparations, including most antibiotics, are obtained through "membrane" treatment. Membrane has become an essential equipment in various fields such as food, beverage, medicine, electronics, electricity, and chemical engineering.
In another emerging field of water - seawater desalination, the role of "membrane" technology has received unprecedented attention. As a strategic technology for preparing water resources, with the increasingly severe water shortage nationwide, governments at all levels have attached great importance to seawater desalination technology. As a decisive factor in determining the quality and price of seawater desalination by membrane method, "membrane" has received special attention.
However, despite the widespread application of membrane technology in various fields, the membranes used are largely dependent on imports. Due to the fact that countries such as the United States, Japan, and Europe have always been at the forefront of membrane technology in the world, leading the direction of membrane technology development and representing the international advanced level, they have basically monopolized the world membrane market. In China, due to the relatively low production level of domestic membrane production lines, unstable environmental conditions, limited variety and unstable quality of membrane materials, the application scope of domestic membranes is very limited. In some technically demanding fields such as seawater desalination, they rely entirely on imports. The launch of these new products at the Hangzhou Water Treatment Center has changed the situation and marked another big step forward for China's membrane technology industry.
